Breakdancing is one of the hardest forms of dance training. In fact, it’s so challenging that the International Olympic Committee recently decided to add the sport as a sport for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
How To Begin Breakdancing
We spoke with Johannes Hattonen (aka Hatsulu), a member of the Finnish Olympic team who appeared in the Verity Sense video, about his passion for “breaking,” his love of the demands it places on dancers’ bodies, and why strength and mobility training is so important. , we talked. It is necessary to prevent injury.
How To Do A Back Spin To A Head Spin In Break Dancing
Breakdancing was born in the 1970s in New York. DJs add a massive groove to the records that makes everyone dance like crazy. That’s where the idea of ”breaking” comes from – they get crazy enough to “break”.
Over time, it evolved into a dance competition between rival teams. This is what sets it apart from other forms of dance. The competition is real: it’s a fight for respect. It is also artistic expression instead of making some moves and giving points.
Break dancing is a combination of creativity and fitness. It’s about reacting to the music, expressing yourself freely and confidently. The artistic element is what sets it apart from other sports.
This creativity is also why being a little older can be an advantage because you can develop your own style and expression. In gymnastics, there are movements that you have to do over and over again. That is why their heroes are so young.
Explained: Breaking Rules, Moves And Format
Breaking the road is showing the inherent rawness of the street. It will be interesting to see how this fits into something like the Olympics now.
There is no set way to break because the focus is on creating your own style. So it is important to know what your strengths are and work on them.
A strong core is essential. It keeps the rest of your body safe, especially your spine. When you’re doing a lot of crazy moves, it’s important to make sure your core is engaged and protecting yourself from injury.
Then your strengths are very personal. If I were running a training program for dancers, I would first research each dancer to find their individual strengths. For me, it’s in my feet – I use them a lot when I rest.

Other dancers have a lot of strength in their upper body, so their style has a lot to do with the weight they put on their hands. I’m taller and heavier than most jumpers, so it takes more effort to lift my entire body with one arm, so I’ll focus on other strengths instead.
Mobility and flexibility are also factors that vary from dancer to dancer. Some interrupts are flexible at the ogi level so they use that to their advantage. I’m not crazy flexible but I am very mobile. I can move very quickly, so I use this as one of my strengths.
Breakdancing is a very high intensity cardio session, just like HIIT. An individual set (or sets) lasts 30-60 seconds. A fight consists of three to five rounds, so you can do 20 rounds in total. A dance workout is pretty intense if, like me, you do your best in every set.
Over the years, I’ve learned to control my breathing, which really comes in handy when I’m in combat. This is very similar to how people use breath control when swimming in cold water.
Breakdancing Added As Olympic Sport For 2024 Paris Games
I usually practice dance about five or six times a week. I also went to the gym three or four times a week.
Before the race, I will focus a lot on speed and explosiveness in training. These flexibility exercises are what make me move like a cat. During the off-season, I will focus more on building my base strength and endurance.
Every morning I start my day with a gentle stretch and practice a new movement. I use online videos to help me develop strategies for that movement and do the strength and mobility exercises I need to use that particular part of my body. This meant that when I did a jump workout later, I took the approach of adding this movement to my workout.
During dance practice, I would start with a warm-up and then do some exercise. I followed this up by doing a few exercises on the moves I was learning and then started practicing my hardest moves. Anything that gets my heart rate up, I’ll leave it until the end. After doing those intense moves I learned how much I needed to rest.
What Is Breakdance?
Joint and knee injuries. You really have to be careful not to strain, sprain, or damage your joints while break dancing. It’s easy to throw your body into a movement without being prepared for the impact it might have on you. Performing strength and mobility exercises is very important to support a healthy and functional body.
Like many dancers, I had a lot of trauma when I was 22. It has become imperative to learn to take care of my body – otherwise, breakdancing will be over for me. On the plus side, doing this also improves my breaking ability.
Most of the people I broke up with when I was young couldn’t do it anymore. They have injured their knee or other joints. The main reason I can still dance is because of the strength training and conditioning I do to support my body.
Great 22 years ago, when I started breaking, I never imagined that one day it would lead to me competing in the Olympics. I am really happy.
Olympic Games: Breakdancing To Make Its Olympic Debut At Paris 2024
Currently, we are building our program for the Olympics. The media is very interested in how the situation develops.
I am currently working hard to create completely new and unseen moves. This is important if you want to be successful. In disruption, you always need an element of surprise and innovation. New movements need time to develop and become natural, which is why it’s important to start them years before the Olympics.
I am now 35 years old, so in 2024 I will enter the 39-year-old competition. This is very old fashioned for any professional sport, especially diving. Most of the top dancers are in their 20s. I think the reason I’m still doing so well is because I’ve taken care of my health.
I think a lot of people are very consistent in their training style and do the same exercises over and over again. If you notice that your energy levels are dropping, breaking out of your routine and practicing dance can be very helpful.
Why Paris Is The Perfect City To Introduce Break Dancing To The Olympics
With breakdancing, you don’t have to plan your workouts or have goals. Ignore the idea of sets and reps. Dancing means having fun and feeling good and getting results.
In the fitness industry, we are always trying to imitate others, take advice and follow our own ideas. However, what works for one person may not necessarily work for another.
Break them all to make your way. When I coach my students, I always encourage them to find their own mindset and approach.
I went to the first disco when I was 14 years old. At one point, I joined “cyphers” (groups of people gathered together) and watched my friend Ollie slide. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.

Then when the music changed and people started to slow dance, I was too shy to approach any of the girls. So I stand sideways, next to Olli, who is doing a strong B-Boy (arms crossed in front of me and hands under armpits while standing with head slightly tilted back). I noticed girls coming and paying attention to him, so I decided to start breaking up.
When I started dancing, I fell in love with separation. Learning my moves and working hard to improve my style has been a great way for me to improve myself.
I have been on a journey of progress with my attitude and mindset over the last 20 years.
I was lucky enough to travel the world to dance, but I was also financially dependent on it, which killed my passion for it.

I retired from dancing for a living and started working as a motivational speaker. I also opened my gym.
Now I can dance if I want, that’s the key for me. This is my job, but I don’t do it for the money. I still love dancing and want to compete.
For many athletes, once they give up, they are done and never come back. When motivation is gone, nothing comes back. I also faced this problem but I am determined to regain my passion for dancing.
A few years ago, I wrote a book about my personal journey with improvements. Like many other sports memories, I talked about many things that I sacrificed on this way to get to where I am.
